ResumenThe development works in the visual optics research, such as physiological optics, in Spain, is discussed. Many research groups are actively working on various aspect of the optical development. Jose M. Otero leads a group of scientists, who are trained in geometrical optics, optical materials or colorimetey. The group has worked on a project to design optical components for periscopes in submarines and binoculars. They have conducted measurements of visual performance, visual acuity, chromatic aberration and luminous efficiency, with the new instruments under low illumination. They have found a systematic myopic shift in night conditions. Arnulf has analyzed the microfluctuations of the accommodation by directly recording the double-pass retinal image of a point source after reflection in the retina. © 2007
