[EN] Are the thinly-populated and more remote areas of the Pyrenean Chain little affected by allochthonous plant species? To answer this question the Coma de Burg district (region) has been the object of our study. Within this area, a total of 235 vascular plant taxa occurring in altered habitats have been encountered, of which 175 (74.4%) are native species and 60 (25.6%) are non-native. Of these allochthonous plants, the group of archaeophytes, with 34 taxa (14.4%), stands out, followed by neophytes, with 24 taxa (11.2%), three of which are considered to be aggressive invaders. It needs saying that in the last 35 years numerous new neophytes have been detected in somewhat remote areas of low population density such as is the case of Coma de Burg. In this district until recent times only one of the three aggressive newcomers was known, and the greater part of the remaining neophytes found by us went unmentioned. Of the 24 neophytes encountered during our field work during 2013-2014, sixteen (representing 73%) had not been detected in previous studies, and two (9%) were known from the area around Coma de Burg but not expressly indicated from this district. Only four neophytes (18% of the total) were previously known from this area. Although the total number of neophytes in the Coma de Burg is lower than that of suburban areas near the major urban and other more densely-populated areas, it is of interest to emphasize that the massive arrival of these plant species to this mountainous area is relatively recent. |
