| en_US |
dc.description.abstract | [EN] The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is one of the most important legumes in the world as a source of protein, dietary fibre, minerals and vitamins. Therefore, it should take part in the habitual diet to satisfy the basic needs of the human organism. It is consumed by its pods and dry seeds, and there are different preferences for the consumers concerning to the size, colour, shape and shine of the seed. It has also agricultural interest due a fertilizing effect by the symbiosis with a bacterium of the Rhizobium genus. However, due to the susceptibility of the crop to plagues and diseases its yield are reduced so it is not able to satisfy the requirements of a population in constant growth, the plant breeding is necessary to obtain improved varieties, with stable yield and improved qualities, in order to satisfy the needs and requirements of the society. | en_US |
dc.description.abstract | So, to be able to have information about the collection of the Spanish bean germplasm at the Mision Biologica de Galicia-CSIC and to explore the possibilities to create a Core and Breeding Collection (CENAM) that could represent the maximum genetic diversity of the species in Spain, and they have good agronomic and seed quality characteristics to be introduced in breeding programs, 294 landraces from different Spanish areas were characterized morphoagronomic and biochemically for the study of phaseolin patterns. Among them, four commercial and international controls were included. A taxonomic classification and a principal components analysis was carried out in order to group the varieties studied. | en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Wide diversity was observed among the different Spanish landraces in all the characters studied, being a quite heterogeneous genetic material. In the taxonomic analysis, eight main groups were described, where most of the varieties studied are included and are identified by the commercial types of seed and also by its origin. The varieties that will be included in the CENAM were chosen from these groups and from the outcomesprincipal components analysis. Accordingto the above exposed, 37 landraces have been chosen which represent the variability of the Spanish bean germplasm. Among them there are included all the commercial types of different bean races and they will form the CENAM. Besides, some of them show relevant characteristics, to be introduced in the breeding programs of the MBG-CSIC. | en_US |
