Effect of the cordycepin on the nucleolar cycle

Abstract

Cordycepin which inhibits DNA and RNA synthesis, acts upon the cell division cycle by inhibiting the rupture of the nuclear membrane during mitosis and so enables us to make it independent of the disappearance of the nucleolus. In the chromosomal condensation process, the argyrophilic nucleolar material is concentrated upon the chromosomes and thus stains them an ochre colour, showing the relationship between the nucleolar material and the chromosomes. Cordycepin proves to be highly effective in blocking nucleolar reorganization, this being considered as an RNA-dependent process.
