Reinterpretation of the palynological record of teh Permina/Triassic transition in Catalan Pyrennes (Spain)

Abstract

The basal unit of the Buntsandstein facies of the Palanca de Noves section (Catalan Pyrenees, Spain) had been f irstlyassigned as Thuringian age (Middle-Late Permian) by palynological assemblages (Broutinet al., 1988, Diez, 2000, Diezet al., 2005). Recen! studies of records of tetrapods footprints and boneremainsin this sectionandothers nearby displaying the same faciesrevealedanEarly-Middle Triassic age for these levels (Mujalet al., 2016, Gretter et al, 2015)and made it necessary to re-study the palynological dating previously done. The Permian attribution was based on the abundance of common Permian miospores, although a more modern age is possible based on the frequentpresence of Endosporitespopillotus and Densoisporitesnejburgii.Our findings of different types of lycopod spores such as Endosporites popillatus and Densoisporites nejburgii, as well as other bisaccate pollen types such as Voltzioceaesporites heteromorpho, and various taeniate bisaccate pollen grains such as Lunatisporites or Protohoploxipinus, allow to correlate this association with the Early Triassic levels described in Lucas (2010) and Kürschner and
