Efectos de los carbohidratos en la fisiología digestiva de la langosta espinosa (Panulirus argus)

Abstract

The interest in the aquaculture of spiny lobsters has increased in the last decades, due to the high demand and commercial value of these crustaceans. However, it is necessary the development of formulated diets adapted to the physiological and nutritional needs of spiny lobsters. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of dietary carbohydrate (CH) level on carbohydrate digestion and ¿-amylase expression and activity in the spiny lobster Panulirus argus. This species readily digests and absorbs CH with a time-course that is dependent on the dietary CH content, but it is not able to tightly regulate ¿-amylase expression according to the CH level in diet. Results are discuses to highlight some limitations should be overcome to increase carbohydrate inclusion in diet for lobsters.
