ResumenThis paper attempts to unravel the persuasive and rhetorical procedures that have historically been used to accommodate the experience of pain, to explore the many ways in which nociception and pain may be related. Since we all agree that pain is culturally mediated, the study of the rhetorical modes that have allowed, across the centuries, the cultural understanding of human suffering, seems a clear intellectual need.
