Texto literario e imagen en la Antigüedad Clásica

Abstract

[ES] La relación entre el texto y la imagen se establece de dos formas: por un lado, mediante la inclusión de ilustraciones en el libro, bien para facilitar la comprensión del texto de carácter científico, cuyo florecimiento tuvo lugar en Alejandría, con el advenimiento de la dinastía de los Ptolomeos a partir del siglo III a. C, bien para embellecer o ilustrar, desde época helenística, una obra literaria o histórica, a partir de prototipos pictóricos que, por lo general, no se han conservado. Por otro lado, la creación de imágenes artísticas a partir de los textos escritos se halla documentada en numerosos géneros, siendo el más destacable el mitológico. En todos los casos, el contenido y las ilustraciones de los textos escritos se van a transmitir a lo largo de los siglos, dando lugar a la creación de imágenes artísticas, inspiradas en los textos escritos o copiadas de los modelos iconográficos, pero surgidas siempre de la obra escrita. A modo de ejemplo de esa simbiosis entre texto e imagen se mencionan los temas de los siete Sabios, las iglesias cristianas, las labores apícolas, las técnicas e inventos científicos, las ideas abstractas y los fenómenos naturales, los ciclos heroicos o épicos, el género dramático y los relatos mitológicos.

[EN] The relationship between text and images is established in two ways: first, through the illustrations in the book, which facilitated the understanding of the scientific character of the text, especially in Alexandria after the accession to the throne of the Ptolomaic dynasty in the third century B. C., or which served as decoration for, during the Hellenistic period, historical or literary works, which often took inspiration from pictorial prototypes, many of them lost. On the other hand the creation of artistic images hasedon written texts is documentedin many genres, among which the mythological is the most prominent. In any case, the content and illustrations of the written texts were transmitted during centuries, and enabled the creation of artistic images inspired in written texts or copied from the iconographic models, similarly based on written documents. Examples of this symbiosis between text and images include the themes of the Seven Sages, the Christian Churches, farm labor, technology and scientific inventions, abstract ideas, natural phenomena, heroic or epic cycles, and drama and mythological narratives.
