Título: | Elucidation of the structure of octapod branched ceria nanocrystals by transmission electron microscopy: contrast simulations and electron tomography |

We present a method to resolve the morphology of branched cerium oxide NPs, through the comparison between HRTEM experimental and simulated images. Octapod and tetrapod atomic models, suggested from a preliminary examination of the experimental HRTEM images, were constructed by assembling a cube-octahedral central body and truncated pyramidal arms pointing to the vertices of a cube. A comparative analysis of the intensity profiles of the simulated and experimental HRTEM images was then performed. This proved capable of discriminating between the two proposed geometries, showing CeO2 NPs to be octapods. The method can be suitable whenever 3D-Tomographic reconstruction is not feasible in TEM, for instance in the case of highly beam sensitive materials. | Descripción: | Resumen del trabajo presentado a la NanoTech Poland International Conference and Exhibition, celebrada en Poznán (Polonia) del 1 al 3 de junio de 2017.-- et al. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10261/160973 |
