Sobre monedas de época almohade: I. El dinar del cadí 'Iyad que nunca existió. II. Cuándo se acuñaron las primeras monedas almohades y la cuestión de la licitud de acuñar moneda

Abstract

[EN] This article is structured in two parts. In the first part, the reading made by F. Codera (and followed by later scholars) of a dinar minted in Ceuta in 543H. is corrected. This correction proves that the dinar is an anti-Almohad coin. In the second part, following the pioneering study by S. Fontenla, the issue of whether Ibn Tumart minted coins is analyzed. My answer to this question —after discussing the meaning of the «mahdism» of the founder of the Almohad movement— is negative. A related issue is that of the licit character of minting coins, with Ibn Hazm answering in the negative. I discuss to what extent the peculiar form of minting coins under the Almohads could have been influenced by the monetary theories of Ibn Hazm, and also to what extent they influenced both the Almohad caliph al-Mansur and the Ayyubid sultan al-Malik al-Kamil Muhammad.

[ES] Este artículo consta de dos partes. En la primera se corrige la lectura hecha por F. Codera (y seguida por autores posteriores) de un dinar acuñado en Ceuta en 543H., corrección que demuestra que se trata de un dinar antialmohade. En la segunda parte, siguiendo el trabajo pionero de S. Fontenla, se analiza la cuestión de si Ibn Tumart acuñó moneda, proponiendo una respuesta negativa a partir de una discusión sobre el significado del «mahdismo» del fundador del movimiento almohade. Una cuestión relacionada es la de la licitud de acuñar moneda, negada por Ibn Hazm. Tras discutir hasta qué punto la peculiar forma de acuñar moneda por los almohades pudo haber estado influida por las teorías monetarias de Ibn Hazm, se plantea la influencia de éstas en época del califa almohade al-Mansur, así como en época del sultán ayyubí al-Malik al-Kamil Muhammad
