ResumenIn the present paper data about catch composition, growth and mortality by different fishing gears are analysed for hake (Merluccius merluccius) off Galician coast. Figure 1 shows results obtained for the growth of hake in its first year of life, and can be observed that from May, time of beginning of recruit for the trawl fishery, hake growths from about 7 cm up to 17-19 cm. Figures 2, 3 and 4 are particular cases that confirm data of figure 1. The analysed fishing gear are gill-net and trawling in its three modalities: "baca", "bou" and "pareja". The size composition for hake captured by "baca" trawling from the harbours of Marin, Ribeira, Muros and Ribadeo are given in figures 5, 6, 7 and 8 respectively. From these figures can be deduced that of "baca" trawling fishes on juveniles (age-group 0, I and II). In the figure 9 and 10 data obtained for "bou" and "pareja" trawling are given for the harbours of Vigo and Coruña-Ferrol respectively. The size composition for gill-net (figure 11) does not present any serious problem because the selectivity of this gear gives place to capture individuals ranging from 40 to 100 cm. An estimation of Z (total mortality) and the explotation rate is given. The value obtained for total mortality (Z) is 3.42 and for the explotation rate (E) ranges from 0,93 to 0.96. From experimental data and recruit estimation (LÓPEZ-VEIGA et al., in press) the íncidence of different values of total mortality are analized on group-0 individuals, for a fixed time period. The result are given in table 1.
