Abstract[EN] A study to the seasonal variation of temperature, salinity, particulate and dissolved organic nitrogen, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates has been carried out in the ria of Vigo, and on the shelf in front of this ria, to a depth of 100 m. In March we have found a mass of water of very high salinity, 36,4%, and a temperature of 13,0ºC, which is rising up and mixing slowly until June. The amount of organic nitrogen on the shelf is below the concentration in the interior of the Ria and is more poorly correlated with solar energy and temperature. The seasonal variation of nitrates at the levels of 50 m and 100 m is opposed to expectation. It is at its maximum in August and its lowest in January. The total amount of nitrogen, organic and inorganic, contained in the column of water from the surfsce to the bottom, is not always constant and has its maximum in summer.
