AbstractWe study experimentally and theoretically passively mode-locked two-section, quantum-well-based lasers. Detuning between the gain and the saturable absorber sections induced by either Quantum-Stark or thermal shift govern the onset of mode-locking and of self-pulsation. © 2011 IEEE
