Level 2 processing is done with the ASCAT Wind Data Processor (AWDP). AWDP builds upon the experience gained with the European scatterometers on board ERS-1 and ERS-2 as well as the American SeaWinds scatterometer carried by QuikSCAT. It has several advanced features, in particular the Multiple Solution Scheme (MSS) and Two Dimensional Variational Ambiguity Removal (2DVAR).
