Memoria de actores: entre bobos anda el juego en la escena del teatro español de Madrid (1895-1896)

Abstract

[EN] The outstanding work developed by Maria Guerrero through her long activity as actress and producer, began in the 1894-95 season with two important achievements. On one side, she attracted around her the most important and compromised authors, initiating the necessary innovation in contemporary theatre. On the other, thank to her, the Spanish Classical Theatre had one of its best moments. To this Theatre the actress dedicated one day per week, the «classic Mondays», and with its performances she travelled all over Europe and South America. This article is intended to study the complex work to stage Entre bobos anda el juego, the play that inaugurated the first complete season at the Teatro Español in Madrid (1895- 96). It is important to emphasize her scenographic and artistic work, and Donato Jiménez as well, one of the best interpreters as Don Lucas del Cigarral.

[ES] La gran labor dramática desarrollada por María Guerrero en su larga vida escénica como actriz y empresaria, arrancó en la temporada teatral 1894-95 con dos grandes logros. De una parte, los autores contemporáneos más comprometidos se aglutinaron en torno a ella, iniciándose así la tan necesaria renovación teatral. De otra, el teatro clásico español vivió en los años finales del siglo XIX, gracias a la Guerrero, uno de sus momentos más esplendorosos. A él dedicó la actriz un día a la semana, los «lunes clásicos», y con él se paseó por Europa y América del Sur. Al estudio de la puesta en escena de Entre bobos anda el juego, obra con la que inauguró la primera temporada completa en el teatro Español de Madrid (1895-1896), va dedicado este trabajo, en el que se destaca la cuidada labor escenográfica y artística de la joven empresaria y actriz, así como la que desarrolló Donato Jiménez, uno de los mejores intérpretes de Don Lucas del Cigarral.
