AbstractManipulation of the bifurcation structure of nonlinear optical systems via intracavity photonic crystals is demonstrated. In particular, new sub-critical regions between periodic states are stabilized by modulations of the material's refractive index. An entire new family of dissipative solitons within this bistability range is identified and characterized. Non trivial snaking of the modulated cavity solitons solutions is also presented.
