AbstractThe retention capacity of coal fly ash wastes of different characteristics for retaining the mercury present in gas phase during coal combustion was evaluated. The ultimate objective was to acquire a basic knowledge of the properties of the components of fly ashes, which are responsible for mercury capture. The results obtained demonstrate that not only the carbon particle content but also its different characteristics play a determinant role in mercury capture.
