AbstractFour soil managements were applied in experimental plots located at Atécuro (Morelia, Central Mexico): traditional, improved, organic, and fallow system. After three years COS and C of the fine fraction (<0,05 mm; CLA) showed significant differences at 10-20 cm depth. probably because of ploughing. Nt and N of the fine fraction (NLA) diminished at 0-10 cm depth in all cases because of SOM mineralization. SOM fractionation conducted in the fine fraction of soil samples belonging to the Ap horizon (0-10 and 10-20 cm) showed that humins concentrated 73% and 60% of the CLA, which is the most stable humus fraction. CLA and NLA changed among humic fractions decreasing brown humic and humic C and N fulvic in favor of fulvic and free humic C and N, which are more easily biodegradable forms.
