AbstractA novel method for producing carbon molecular sieves useful for CO2/CH4 and O2/N2 separations is reported. The method consist3s in thermal treatment with a microwave furnace of activated carbon fibres produced from acrylic textile fibres. After the microwave treatments almost every sample totally excludes CH4 and N2 from their micropore structure. These samples are very promising because they lead to optimum separations, despite the somewhat lower adsorption capacity.
