AbstractNanoclusters of cadmium sulfide covalently bound to biologically significant neoglycoconjugates (glyco-QDs) have been synthesized by means of a single step solution procedure. The neoglycoconjugates confer the QDs water solubility, stability, and biological activity. The nanometer-sized glyco-QDs have been characterized by TEM, EDAX, 1H NMR, UV–vis, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The carbohydrate conjugate nanocrystals can be used as bioactive fluorescence probes for specifically labeling carbohydrate cell receptors.
