Rare K decays and CP violation

AbstractChiral perturbation theory provides a useful framework to analyze rare kaon decays, where long-distance effects are expected to play an important rôle. The theoretical predictions, obtained within this framework for radiative decay modes are reviewed, together with the present experimental status. Special consideration is given to the K_l -- (pi)º e+e- decay, which appears as an ideal candidate to look for new signals of CP violation within the standard model.
