Revisión de las distintas especies del género Bovichtus (Perciformes, Bovichtidae) citadas para el cono sur americano y península Antártica

Abstract

[EN] In spite of Hardy´s 1988 review of the Australian species of genus Bovitchus (C.&V. 1831), the systematic status of the related species in southern South America and the Antarctic continent remains confused, in such a way the validity of some of them is questiones, and others are probably conspecific. A morphometric and meristic study of 61 speciments representative of 3 nominal species of Bovichtus (Bovichtus argentinus Mac Donagh 1931, Bovichtus chilensis Regan 1913 y Bovichtus diacanthus non Carmichael Valenciennes 1831) is presented. The material used in this study originated from catalogued reference collections of European and south American museums and institutes (Hamburg, London, Paris and Valdivia, Chile). So, in south America the genus Bovichtus chilensis regan 1913, with a distribution which extend from the northern boundary of Subtropical Convergence in the Atlantic ocean and the latitude 30º S (off Coquimbo) in the Pacific ocean, to the Antartic west coast.

[ES] Aparte de la revisión de las especies australianas del género Bovichtus (C.&V. 1831), realizada por Hardy en 1988, la situación sistemática de las demás especies del cono sur de América y continente Antártico permanece confusa, llegando a cuestionarse la validez de algunas, y postulandose posible conespecificidad de otras. En este trabajo se realizó un estudio morfométrico y merístico de 61 ejemplares representantes de tres especies nominales de Bovichtus, según catalogación de origen (B. argentinus, B. chilensis y B. diacanthus non Carmichael). El material utilizado procedió de fondos catalogados de museos e institutos europeos y sudamericanos (Hamburgo, Londres, París y Valdivia, Chile). Así, el género Bovichtus en Sudamérica queda representado por una sola especie; Bovichtus chilensis, distribuyéndose desde el limite norte de la Convergencia Subtropical en el océano Atlántico y los 30º S (frente a Coquimbo) en el océano Pacífico, hasta la costa oeste de la península Antártica.
