system = 3 mating/year (Period A) vs 5 (STAR system, Period B). The greatest reproductive intensity
resulted in a statistically significant increase in the number of lambing/ewe.year (1.32 vs. 1.22, p
<0.01), of 12.0% in lambs produced (p <0.05) and 8.3% in milk production per ewe (p <0.05), which
represented an increase in estimated income for both items of 7.6%. STAR system mating vs 3 lambing
time/year allows a linearity in the distribution of births with no significant differences in % per quarter
(27, 22, 26 and 24, respectively) and they were different in the other system (32, 5, 31 and 31, p <0.01).
So, the workload is more regular (better attention in the lambing and during lactation) corroborating
the observed statistically significant decrease in the % of lambs born dead (6.5 vs. 9.7, p <0.001) and
% of dead lambs during rearing (2 5 vs 5.7, p <0.001). Reproductive intensification does not necessarily
a higher % of males (3.9 vs. 4.5) or ewe lambs replacement (37.0 vs 34.4) (p> 0.05). |
