The "Narrators of Caraguatá" (documentary)

Abstract

[EN] The “Narrators of Caraguatá” is a documentary movie that brings up to the voices and practices historically forefornt obliterate in Uruguay. Filmed in small villages in Tacuarembó, memories and reflections on marginal estates absent emerge from the interaction between researchers and local inhabitants. The national identity is reconsidered through sounds and images, breaking up the mirrors reflecting that have been our Prehistory so far. The journey moves from the empowerment of heritage by digging up burial mounds children hand by hand with archaeologists, to the visions and local links of the peasants to the landscape or the current daily life in the countryside. It is as much an artistic expression as it is scientific, the result of five years of archaeological and anthropological research.

[ES] Audiovisual realizado durante más de cinco años un grupo de investigación conformado por un equipo de arqueólogos y antropólogos pertenecientes a instituciones uruguayas como el Laboratorio de Arqueología del Paisaje y Patrimonio del Uruguay (LAPPU) de la Facultad de Humanidades de la UDELAR, en colaboración con la Intendencia Municipal de Tacuarembó y la ONG Cardijn y el Laboratorio de Patrimonio (IEGPS-CSIC), de España. Los proyectos marco que originaron este documental fueron "El paisaje arqueológico de las tierras bajas. Un modelo de gestión integral del Patrimonio Arqueológico de Uruguay" (2005-2009) y "Desarrollo de una Unidad de Análisis Territorial y Sistemas de Información Geográfico aplicados a la gestión integral del Patrimonio Cultural en Uruguay" (AECID PCI 2008-2012, declarado de Interés Nacional el 15 de Enero del 2008). Está filmado en pequeños poblados de Tacuarembó y construye redes de testimonios en donde pobladores locales e investigadores reflexionan sobre patrimonios ausentes y memorias residuales.
