Variación temporal en las hábitos alimentarios del Milano Real durante la invernada en la Meseta Norte

Abstract

[ES] Se estudió el comportamiento alimentario del Milano Real durante el invierno en su principal zona de invernada, la meseta norte, coincidiendo con una plaga de topillos Microtus arvalis. La especie se comporta como generalista, explotando la plaga de topillos cuando éstos son abundantes, y pasando a utilizar los basureros y muladares en los últimos meses del invierno. Se sugiere que la reciente modificación en la distribución invernal de la especie (De Juana et al., 1988) es debida a la irrupción de Microtus arvalis en Ja Meseta Norte a finales de Jos 70. Basureros y muladares se manifiestan como importantes herramientas para el manejo de la especie.

[EN] Feeding habits of the Red Kite during winter were studied in its main wintering ground in Spain, the Northern Plateau, during a year of vole plague (Microtus arvalis). During winter the Red Kíte behaves as a generalist, but it feeds mostly on voles when these are abundant (autumn-early winter). It changes to scavenging in refuse tips or on refuse from abattoirs in míd·winter. It is suggested that the recent changes observed in the wintering distribution of the species (De Juana et al., 1988) are due to the irruption of Microtus arvalis in the Northem Plateau since the latest seventies. Mute and refuse tipes seem to be important management tools.
