Les gzzm «tondeurs» à Ougarit

Abstract

[EN] Our knowledge of the job of shearers in Ugarit is based on the information provided by the two clerical texts in alphabetic script RS 16.127 and RS 17.106. They mention the function of gzz “shearer” in the plural form gzzm. Several questions may be posed—and answers can be proposed—resulting from these texts, such as how many people made up the groups of shearers mentioned in the texts, when did they perform their task, what amount of work could a shearer complete (daily, monthly), how much wool could they obtain, how much grain each of them received.

[FR] Notre connaissance du métier de tondeur repose, à Ougarit, sur les deux textes administratifs en écriture alphabétique RS 16.127 et RS 17.106. Ces documents mentionnent la fonction de gzz « tondeur », sous la forme du pluriel gzzm. Leur analyse soulève plusieurs questions, parmi lesquelles le nombre de personnes constituant les groupes de tondeurs mentionnés dans les textes, la période d’activité, la capacité de travail (journalière, mensuelle, etc.) d’un tondeur, les quantités de laine obtenues, la quantité de grain reçue par chaque travailleur, tout en permettant d’y apporter des réponses.
