AbstractElectron beam welding of TC4 titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) and 4J36 invar alloy (IA) was conducted by inserting V/Fe bilayer. Results showed that maximum tensile strength of the welded joints was 168.8 MPa when electron beam current was 11 mA. The microstructure of melted zone between Ti6Al4V and V consisted of (βTi,V) solid solution ((βTi,V)ss). Fe solid solution (Fe(ss)) and (Fe,V)σ solid solution ((Fe,V)σss) were produced in melted zone between IA and V. However, when electron beam current was 10 and 12 mA, the welded joints were more susceptible to cracks due to formation of more σ phase (FeV) at interface.
