Interfacial reaction and microstructure investigation of TC4/V/Cu/Co/316L diffusion-bonded joints

AbstractDiffusion welding of TC4 titanium alloy and 316L stainless steel with V/Cu/Co multi-layer metal interlayer was carried out at 800 °C, 840 °C, 880 °C and 920 °C, respectively. The results show that the maximum tensile strength of the joint is 292 MPa when the temperature is 880 °C due to solid solution strengthening effect. A thin Cu-Co solid solution was formed at the copper-cobalt interface, which caused the joints to break at different temperatures. With the increase of temperature, the tensile strength of the joint increases first and then decreases. In addition, dimples of different sizes and shapes are distributed at different temperature, which indicates that the joint has good ductility.
