EUROLEON Cruise, RV Hespérides

AuthorsCanals, Miquel CSIC ORCID; CSIC - Unidad de Tecnología Marina (UTM)
Issue Date2007
AbstractStudy the relationships between the current morphology of the seabed, the sedimentary coating and the transport processes of active and past sediments. Integrated analysis of the sedimentary drainage systems of the continental margin, incorporating a "seascape" modeling component that includes the most determining control factors and the development rates of the morphosedimentary elements that make up the margin and the deep basin. The ROV transects were predefined from multibeam bathymetry in a seamount area in October 2007 during the ‘EUROLEON’ cruise on board R/V Hespérides, along the Iberian margin of the Valencia Trough. A video survey was performed with a ROV (Max Rover Mark II) equipped with two video cameras and with zoom (central and lateral view) and 6 light focus. The dive was conducted between 460 and 800 m depth. Videos were analyzed in real time onboard and observed animals were identified up to the possible minimum taxonomical level
