AbstractWe can see a very early nauplius I of the Calanoid copepod Paracartia grani and two eggs in different developmental stages. The empty one has just hatched, whereas the darker is still containing the future hatchling. Zooming in, both eggs are surrounded by thin spines which are probably a form of adaptation to a pelagic existence
