Acid attack on high-alkali cement paste: Another cause for delayed ettringite formation

AbstractCement pastes were immersed in an acid solution of 0.87M HAc/NaAc (pH 4.5) and in distilled water for different periods of time up to 90 days. Changes in the solid phases were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray microanalysis, and X-ray diffraction after the extraction of the specimens from the solutions. Results showed that acid attack could lead to delayed ettringite formation.
