Phase approximation beyond the first order: The Kuramoto model with non-pairwise interactions

AbstractWe study extensions of the Kuramoto model arising when the averaging approximation is considered beyond the first order. Key multi-body (non-pairwise) interactions already appear for second-order approximations. They allow nontrivial states absent in the first-order analysis, such as clustering or quasiperiodic partial synchrony.
