Tunable Infrared Perfect Absorption in Bismuth-based Nanostructures for Thermal Photonics

AbstractBismuth-based nanostructures present unique optical properties related with their giant near-infrared interband transitions. At longer wavelengths in the infrared, their giant refractive index and small extinction coefficient make them efficient light harvesters. In this presentation, we explore the potential of different kinds of bismuth-based nanostructures (nanospheres, nanocylinders and nanolayers) for achieving a spectrally tunable perfect absorption of light in the mid-to-far infrared and discuss the suitability of such nanostructures for thermal photonics.
