Bismuth-based Metasurfaces for Nanophotonics from the Ultraviolet to the Far Infrared

AbstractBi-based nanostructures show outstanding optical properties that make them ideal building blocks for the fabrication of metasurfaces with tunable optical properties over a broad spectral region, from the ultraviolet to far infrared. In this presentation, we report the design, fabrication, and relevant optical properties of Bi-based metasurfaces. We will show how their optical absorption, reflection and phase can be successfully tuned using planar optical cavity designs. The impact of the proposed optical structures for applications in several areas of nanophotonics will be discussed.
