AbstractI will talk about interneurons that regulate the function of hippocampal networks through the release of Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). I will focus on two main aspects: the diversity of interneuron cell types and the plasticity of the synapses they form onto target neurons. Using two interneuron subtypes as a paradigm, I will show results that uncover new aspects of this diversity and illustrate the cellular and synaptic mechanisms used by inhibitory neurons to regulate hippocampal-dependent memory.
