AbstractThe authors studied the main characteristics of the fersiallitic soils present in the Canary Islands. They describe their main morphological, phisical, chemical, mineralogical and micromorphological characteristics, and considerations about the ecological conditions of the soils are given. Phisico-chemical nature of pyroclastic material and age of this material are among the main factors controloing the typology of these soils. A discussion about the classification of these soils is also given.
