Notes on natural infection of some Helicidae species (Mollusca, Stylommatophora) by Protostrongylinae sheep larvae

Abstract

The natural infection level of ovine Protostrongylinae in the province of León was studied. The species examined were: Helicella bierzona, H. corderoi, H. jamuzensis, H. zaratei H. itala, H. madritensis, H. ordunensis and H. valdeona. Information about soil types, phytosociology, altitude, and map references concerning the collection places are given. The first four species showed no signs of parasite infection. Amongst the other species, the percentage of infection was, in decreasing order: H. madritensis, H. valdeona, H. itala, and H. ordunensis. This is the first time that H. madritensis and H. ordunensis have been found infected with larvae of Cystocaulus ocreatus, Neostrongylus linearis and Muellerius capillaris.
