Concentració i identificació de microorganismes a l'aire del litoral de Barcelona

Abstract

The atmosphere contains an important burden of biological particles such as bacteria and fungi, as well as pollen, viruses or fragments of plants and animals, which can be transported and deposited thousands of kilometers away from its point of origin and are emitted directly from the biosphere into the atmosphere. There is almost no information about the abundance and fate of microbes and fungi from the air In this study, we wanted to know the abundance and the composition of microbes in the low atmosphere. To obtain this information, we measured three different samples. Two of the samples were obtained from two transects carried out with a ship on the coast of Barcelona and the third was obtained on the roof of the Institute of Sciences of the Sea (ICM). Our results show that there is presence of microorganisms and fungi in the urban and marine environment of the coast of Barcelona and that they vary their concentration in the air following a seasonal pattern. We have also studied the community that we can find using genetic methods such as PCR. The results indicate that the predominant fungi in this coastal and maritime area are ascomycota, with the dominance of Cladosporium sp., And that the bacteria that most can be found belongs to species of the orders Micrococcal and Bacillales
