Adult specimens of Spicara chryselis (55) and Paracentropristis cabrilla (50). captured in Blanes (Losta Brava) and maintained in captivity for a normal annual cycle, were studied. The following parameters were measured: photoperiod, temperature, size, body weight, gonad weight, pituitary cells (STH and GTH) and gonad cells (Leydig, Sertoli, germinal and others). We established some correlations between the parameters named above, which are distributed into two main periods: sexual maturation (January-May) and the resting period (July-December). In the latter period, the growth phase occurs (September-November). From our results, various conclusions can be drawn: (a) a critical photoperiod for gonadotropic cell stimulation was observed; (b) the GTH cells are stimulated during the maturation. process; (c) the Leydig cells could possibly be related to the spermatogonial mitotic divisions; (d) the STH cells are stimulated during the growth phase; (e) a synergism between the STH cells and the GTH cells is suggested; (f) the principal components of a matrix correlation, including all of these values, give a mathematical confirmation of these physiological processes-
