AbstractFoliar diseases caused by biotrophic pathogens, such as rusts and powdery mildews, are major limiting factors in legume and cereal production worldwide. Crop protection is largely based on chemical control, although there is renewed interest in the discovery of natural products as alternatives to synthetic fungicides.
