AuthorsGonzález-Ripoll Navarro, María Dolores

PublisherBöhlau Verlag
CitationJahrbuch für Geschichte Lateinamerikas 47(1): 59-84 (2010)
AbstractThis article analyzes the points of view, opportunity, as well as the cultural and political uses of the ideas spread by Antillean authors who wrote about the Spanish struggle against the French in the wake of the events surrounding the “2 de mayo”, a date which has become a historical landmark. Some of them were eyewitnesses or even participated in the events. The article deals with texts published in Spain and Cuba, especially two works written by the brothers José and Rafael Arango Núñez del Castillo as well as further writings by Tomás Romay y Chacón - all of them citizens of Havana.
