AbstractA continuous increase in the demand for clean and renewable energy has reintroduced an interest in hydrogen as a form of chemical energy, although its storage is a demanding task and currently one of the barriers to adopting the hydrogen technology is the lack of an adequate method for its storage. In this context, liquid organic hydrogen carriers like alcohols have now high interest because of their easy storage, transport, relatively high hydrogen content, and their facile reciclability. Additionally, the conversion of alcohols to carbonyl compounds is an important reaction in organic chemistry as evidenced by its extensive applications in the synthesis of fine chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates. In this work we present the synthesis and characterization of an osmium-iridium bimetallic complex, as well as its catalytic activity in the dehydrogenation of alcohols and related processes.
