AbstractAt the Port Erin laboratory the main aim of the research programme has been to carry out basic research on the early life of various flatfish species as a contribution to the development of commercial farming sys-tems. The potential of three species is being examined: the turbot, Scophthalmus maximus L.; the commom sole, Solea solea (L.); and the lemon sole, Microstomus kitt WALBAUM. The discovery of suitable foods which can be reliably produced is essential for the mass production of larval fish. [...]
