Performance of different light sources for the absolute calibration of radiation therrnometers

ResumenThe evolving mise en pratique for the definition of the kelvin (MeP-K) [1,2] will, in its second edition, encourage the realisation and dissemination of thermodynamic temperature either directly (primary thermometry), or indirectly (relative primary thermometry) via fixed points with assigned reference thermodynamic temperatures. Over the last few years, the Centro Español de Metrología (CEM), in collaboration with Instituto de Óptica of Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (IO-CSIC), has developed several set ups for the absolute calibration of standard radiation thermometers using the radiance method [3]. The aim of activities carried out in this area is two-fold: to realise thermodynamic temperature directly [4] and to measure the thermodynamic temperatures of several fixed points [5]. In order to carry out these calibrations, a system based in a monochromator or/and a laser and an integrating-sphere has been developed to calibrate CEM¿s standard radiation thermometers (KE- LP2 and KE-LP4) and a CEM filter radiometer (FIRA2 [6]). Different light sources have been used for measuring absolute spectral radiance responsivity: a Xe-Hg 500 W lamp, a supercontinuum laser NKT SuperK-EXR20 and a diode laser at 647,3 nm, 120 mW. Advantages and disadvantages of them have been studied: sensitivy to interferences generated by the laser inside the filter, flux stability generated by the lamps, etc. This paper will describe the set-ups used, the uncertainty budgets and the results for absolute temperatures of Cu, Co-C, Pt-C and Re-C fixed points, measured with these three thermometers (all with a 650 nm centred band).
