Prognosis value of exosomal ΔNp73 in colon cancer patients

Abstract[Objetive]: Tumor-derived exosomes are emerging as local and systemic cell-to-cell mediators of oncogenic information through the horizontal transfer of mRNAs, microRNAs and proteins. The exosomal content has been described as active when taken up by the recipient cell. Identifying the specific molecular cargo of exosomes will help to determine their function. [Design]: We have evaluated by RT-PCR the levels of ΔNp73 in colon cancer patients derived exosomes and analyzed its prognosis potential. [Results]: We have observed that ΔNp73 messenger is enriched in tumor-derived exosomes. High levels of ΔNp73 in exosomes of colon cancer patients associated with shorter survivals. [Conclusion]: ΔNp73 can be actively sorted in tumor-derived exosomes. Our data support the potential prognostic value of exosomal ΔNp73 in colon cancer patients, with the advantage of obtaining the sample through a non-invasive method.
