PRJ. PRocesos Judiciales en las sociedades medievales del norte peninsular

Abstract

[EN] The main aim of the PRJ [Judicial Processes in early medieval societies in northern Iberia (9th-11th centuries)] research project is to expand the knowledge of the processes involved in dispute resolution and the exercise of justice in early medieval societies in northern Iberia. A relational database has been developed in order to access structured information obtained from North Iberian documents (from Portugal to Catalonia) prior to the twelfth century. It systematically quantifies all published documents year by year. In addition, all documents containing any information on either judicial proceedings or dispute resolution mechanisms in general have been specifically and systematically identified. It currently stands at approximately 22.000 documents, nearly 10% of which contain some kind of judicial information.

The purpose of this database is to serve as a research tool for scholars and researchers with a general interest in this period. It will enable them to use this comprehensive, systematised corpus in their work.

[ES] PRJ [PRocesos Judiciales en las sociedades medievales del norte peninsular] es un proyecto de investigación cuyo objetivo principal es profundizar en el conocimiento de los procesos de resolución de disputas y del ejercicio de la justicia en las sociedades altomedievales del norte ibérico. Para ello se ha desarrollado una base de datos relacional que permite acceder a una información estructurada de la documentación del norte ibérico -desde Portugal a Cataluña- anterior al siglo XII. Está basada en una cuantificación sistemática, año a año, de todos los documentos escritos publicados y en la identificación específica y sistemática de todos aquellos que contienen algún tipo de información sobre procesos judiciales o de resolución de disputas en general Actualmente, se han contabilizado más de 22.000 documentos, de los que casi un 10% contiene algún tipo de información judicial.

El propósito es que sirva de herramienta de investigación para investigadores y estudiosos en general interesados en este período, que puedan beneficiarse de disponer de un material documental integrado y sistematizado.
