IOC-SCOR GlobalHAB Steering Meeting, Oban, UK, 8-10 March 2016

Abstract

GlobalHAB, the new joint IOC-SCOR programme, will be launched in 2016, with financial support from the U.S. National Science Foundation (through SCOR) and from IOC. The overall goal of the new programme is to foster activities to stimulate the scientific advance for a better understanding of harmful algal blooms and to contribute to mitigate their impacts. GlobalHAB will address and build upon the most relevant objectives identified by the preceding GEOHAB programme and will incorporate new pressing issues that face the international harmful algal bloom (HAB) science community. GlobalHAB will also take into consideration recommendations posed by the international community to make the new programme relevant to contemporary and future research, funding, and management priorities, continuing to provide an international approach based on science.
