Modelos paleocriológicos confrontados con depósitos costeros en el NW de la Península Ibérica

Abstract

The main target of this work is to know the palaeoenvironmental evolution of the last cold period in the NW of the Iberian Peninsula. During the Pleistocene cold-stages climates, many mountains in the Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula were occupied by local glaciers. The palaeoclimatic conditions allowed the presence of periglacial processes at sea level and the glacial dynamics of the mountain areas. One of the main problems in the reconstruction of the last Glacial Period in the Iberian Penninsula is the mismatching in the main phases recorded in the different mountains systems. This problem arises in part because the Northwestern Mountains have been considered as analogous to those systems with a strong “mediterranean” component. This work attempt to improve the knowledge of the climatic and palaeoenvironmental changes in the Iberian Peninsula combining geomorphological studies in “atlantic” mountain areas with the sedimentary reconstruction of cold climate coastal deposits.
