Shallow subsurface shear wave velocity structure of the Zancara River Basin.

ResumenRayleigh wave velocity dispersion was measured in an active seismic reflection profile deployed to characterize the seismic structure of a Centralized Temporal Storage site for high level radioactive waste in Cuenca, Spain. Phase velocity dispersion was measured for all the shot-gathers with the fk technique whereas group velocity dispersion was measured for all the traces in a single shot-gather with the multiple filter analysis technique (MFT) for frequencies from 5 to 50 Hz. The fundamental mode dispersion curves were then inverted to obtain 1D shear-wave velocity models to image the shallowest 50 m and those were then interpolated to provide 2D velocity profiles. Comparison between these profiles and existing well logs and cores give a good correlation for velocity values and interfaces corresponding to the lithologies present in each of the sites.
