This documentary base offers a set of data regarding the spread of this institution among non-Muslims and the ways they made use of it: on the one hand, to supply their temples with the assets required to sustain their worship and, on the other, to regulate the hereditary transmission of their family patrimony. This work shows the legal consideration given to such donations by the Maliki jurists of al-Andalus and consequently the problems regarding their legitimacy.
